Journey to Quinlan Lake(First attempt)
July 31, 09
10km

When I first started thinking about this journey I am on I had a chance to talk to Darryl Swaine about it and he told me a bout Quinlan Lake and that he knew it would be a difficult place to get to. Not being a person to shy away from a challenge it immediately went to the top of my list of lake I wanted to visit this summer. It was just a question of when. Well a window of opportunity opened up in my schedule on July 31, 09. So Katie(my daughter) and I headed out first thing in the morning to out start point in Indian Field by the bridge that crosses over Beaver Creek. We had ideal weather for the trip. As we headed up stream there were swallows circling around up and there were thousands of spider webs all over the grasses that lined the shore. It was an incredible to see. Our plan was to push on to the lake and then work our way back stopping to take some pictures and do some fishing.   That is what we did the creek twist and turns continually as well as narrows to not much wider then the canoe and widens to about 16’, There were times that we had no choice but to grab the bushes on both sides and pull our way through. We also encountered 7 beaver dams that we had to go over. After a few hours and 4 km’s we reaches spot where we had a short carry. We got to the other side and found a great fishing hole. But following out plan we continued on but not much further up stream the water ends. This left us about 1.2 kms from the lake. We picked up a few supplies and started to scout ahead to see what we were up against. After about 200 meters we found little sign of water and it would be hard going to make it to the lake so we headed back to the canoe. I was a bit disappointed but time was against me. This trip would be best done as an over night trip. So we got the fishing gear out and started back. It was not long before I landed my first of two trout. While at this fishing hole there was a hawk circling around over head screeching at us all the while. We decided to head on back to the car. It is amazing to see how things had changed from earlier in the day. The dew had dried up and the spider webs were gone and of course the wind picked up making the trip from the creek down to Beaver creek a bit more difficult. When we arrived there we did some more fishing and found that there were plenty of Perch to catch. From there we loaded up the canoe and headed home. Although we did not reach our destination we had a great day on the water.
