103 to Ogden Lake

August 14th, 09

7.5km

I got an email from my friend Andrew saying that he is coming to town and was wondering if I would like to go out in the canoe. There is only one answer to this question the only real decision is where. I looked over my maps and decided to try the run from the 103 to Mud Lake, Hayden Lake and ending at Ogden Lake.  This is the route I had tried last fall and had gotten the canoe pinned on a rock and ended up having to walk out with my damaged canoe. The difference this time is the water levels. The stream between Mud Lake and Hayden Lake was essentially dried up and ended up being a 1.5km walk down the creek bed with a canoe that took about 3.5 hrs. This was the most difficult treks through the woods I have ever attempted. Once on the other side the rest of the route was quite easy across to Hayden and Ogden to the road.

As I look back on this day as difficult as it was I am equally proud of myself for being able to rise to the challenge and complete the route I set out for myself.
